HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE


Job-related accidents can be prevented. Health and Safety is everyone's responsibility. Everybody should consider Safety as a top priority, from the laborers, machine operators, technicians, maintenance mechanics, drivers, material handlers, team leaders, lead hands, supervisors, clerks, administrative assistants, including office staff, plant managers, guests, visitors, factory owners, CEO's, company president, top bosses and the big boss should be responsible for the health and safety of the workplace as a whole. If a small leak, spill, or vapor is neglected, it could lead to slips, trips, burns, injuries, accidents, and even death and other big problems in the factory, company, family, community and even to the environment and thus affects everyone. Safety first. Prevent accidents in the job. Think and act safely and responsively!



General Safety Rules and Practices:


- Always use personal protective equipment

- Read and obey all posted signs and instructions

- Be very extra careful when working near a moving equipment

- Don't operate a machine without proper authority and training

- Don't operate a machine that has no machine guarding, or protective enclosure

- Don't work at an unsafe speed

- Don't work at an unsafe area with spills, leaks, debris, falling objects, etc.

- Don't work in an area or environment with poor lighting and ventilation

- Don't take unsafe positions or postures

- Load, unload, carry, lift, transport materials safely

- Don't use defective tools, unsafe machines or equipment

- Make sure safety devices are operational

- Secure the materials, products, machines, equipment before working with it

- Properly handle and store hazardous, flammable, reactive, toxic, compressed, oxidizing, burning, and other dangerous chemicals and materials

- Follow the proper work procedures, instructions, methods, and manuals

- Pay close and careful attention to your work

- Never horseplay

- Observe the safe and proper way of lifting objects

- Observe the safe and proper way of working with electricity and electrical tools, devices, equipment



LIFTING: Safety Rules and Practices


- Make sure the weight of the load is safe to lift

- Check the load and make sure there are no sharp or pointed objects or edges

- Keep arms and elbows close to the body

- Put one foot forward in front of the other

- Bend the knees

- Keep your back straight

- Don't lift the load over shoulder height

- Use body weight to get the load moving

- Make sure the way is safe and clear and that you can see where you are going

- When turning, move the feet first then turn the whole body

- Don't twist at the waist

- When lowering the load, bend the knees while your back kept straight



ELECTRICITY & ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: Safety Rules and Precautions


- Make sure you have the right and appropriate training prior to operating any electrical equipment

- Read and understand the instructions and manuals and ask questions when in doubt or unsure

- Make sure the work area has no water, no liquid spilled and is safe environment

- Check to see that the electrical tool, device, or equipment is not wet before operating

- Be sure that your hands are not wet prior to operating any electrical equipment

- Make sure that the power cord and wires don't cause tripping accidents and are not pressed upon or rolled over by heavy objects

- Make sure that the power source and voltage is safe and appropriate

- Check the power cord to make sure it's not broken, split, or damaged

- See to it that the wires are properly insulated and grounded

- Never use an electrical device or tool that gives you an electrical shock even if it's minimal

- When the power cord heats up and starts to emit an unpleasant odor, turn it off right away

- When the electrical device, tool, or equipment sparks, smokes, or makes a burning smell, unplug it immediately

- Never use an electrical equipment with a broken, open, missing, or cracked housing, casing, frame or enclosure

- Don't use an electrical machine or apparatus that has been locked out and tagged out

- When unplugging, pull the plug and not the cord
